AI Empowers Hearing-Impaired Kids: FCU’s “Sheng Sheng” Wins 2nd in Apple’s Greater China Innovation Contest.

The 10th Apple Mobile Application Innovation Contest (MAIC) Greater China Finals was held on November 2 at Zhejiang University. Out of 4,281 teams from 1,293 universities worldwide, only 88 advanced to the finals. The “Sheng Sheng” team—Po-Lin Li (Feng Chia University), Yi-Ting Wang (Hungkuang University), and Shuo-Han Hsu (National Chung Hsing University)—won second prize in the Enlightenment Track with an AI speech training platform for children with hearing impairments.

The “30th College and University Information Application Service Innovation Competition,” co-organized by the Administration for Digital Industries, Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Department of Information and Technology Education, Ministry of Education, and the Chinese Society for Information Management, held its finals and award ceremony on November 1 at the Sports Center of National Taiwan University. This year, a record high was set with 151 colleges and universities, 1,964 teams, and 9,781 participants registering for the competition. Facing such scale and intensity, Feng Chia University’s faculty and students delivered outstanding performances, winning a total of 13 awards across categories including Industrial Innovation AI, Industry-Academia Collaboration, Information Application, AUO Smart Field and ESG Application, AI Tools Application, and MATLAB & Simulink UAV Innovation.

The list of heroes for the “Cloud Computing” category in the 3rd Asian Skills Competition and the 48th WorldSkills National Selection (Phase 2) was announced on October 20. Lin Chen-Yi from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Feng Chia University stood out as the official national representative and will represent Taiwan at the “WorldSkills Asia Taipei 2025” competition, held in Taipei from November 27 to 29, showcasing the cloud computing capabilities of Taiwan’s young generation.

The 2025 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) was grandly held at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from October 16 to 18. This year’s theme, “AI Cross-Domain Innovation, Intelligence Drives the Future,” brought together top global R&D teams and industry elites to showcase the limitless possibilities of technological innovation. In the “Invention Competition Area” organized by the Intellectual Property Office, Ministry of Economic Affairs, a total of 554 patents competed, with over 100 entries from the “School Invention Area,” making the competition fierce. This year, the concept of corporate talent selection was introduced, inviting Delta Electronics, Minmax Group, MSI, and Foxconn Technology Group to jointly evaluate and seek innovative achievements with market potential and industrial value.

The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) recently announced the list of approved College Student Research Projects. Feng Chia University ranked sixth nationwide in the number of approved projects, with an acceptance rate exceeding 50%, demonstrating strong academic and research capabilities as well as interdisciplinary talent cultivation. This program is the most important undergraduate research platform in Taiwan, not only fostering students’ independent thinking and research abilities but also deepening faculty-student collaboration and the campus research atmosphere. At Feng Chia, these achievements are never accidental, but the result of teachers’ long-term guidance and support.

Feng Chia University held its first-ever “University-wide Freshman Project Competition” in 2025, guiding new students to immerse themselves in a CDIO learning environment centered on “learning by doing, doing by learning” from their very first day on campus. The project courses, held from September 2 to 3, featured outstanding teams from each department, who continued to refine their projects in their spare time. The final results exhibition was held at Virtuosi Hall from September 23 to 26, attracting over a thousand faculty and students for observation and exchange.

The largest iOS application development competition in Taiwan, the “10th Mobile Application Innovation Contest” Grand Final, was held yesterday (8th) at Virtuosi Hall, Feng Chia University. The event was co-organized by Asia’s largest Apple reseller STUDIO A’s campus brand Straight A, Feng Chia University, and National Taiwan University’s Apple RTC, with official support from Apple. This year’s contest set a new record, attracting 658 teams and 1,021 faculty and students from 71 universities and colleges across Taiwan. The competition was fierce and creativity abounded, showcasing the limitless potential of Taiwanese students in iOS application innovation.

The 2025 Hon Hai Technology Award recipients were revealed on June 6, honoring 21 outstanding master’s and doctoral students from leading universities including National Taiwan University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Feng Chia University, and Johns Hopkins University. Among them, Tzu-Hao Chen, a Ph.D. student from Feng Chia University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, was the sole recipient from a private university, earning recognition for his remarkable research achievements.
